Rocky Mountain Ranches, LLC is a working cattle and ranching operation owned and operated by Chuck and Susan Johnson whose deep appreciation for nature, livestock, land stewardship, and the western ranching way of life is reflected in every part of the operation. The Johnsons have a long-standing love for cattle, open range, livestock care, and responsible ranch management. Their goal is to help preserve the values of American ranching while contributing to the ongoing need for quality beef production in the United States. Through hands-on management, dedication to animal welfare, and respect for the land, Rocky Mountain Ranches continues to support the essential role ranchers play in feeding America. Rocky Mountain Ranches currently operates through two primary ranch locations: Goodwater Ranch in Holbrook, Arizona, and Witch Wells Ranch in Apache County, Arizona.
These ranches strive to be premier cattle ranches and specialize in breeding top-quality calves, focusing on healthy, natural meats. Our services include expert breeding, personalized care, and quality improvements, all in an idyllic, well-maintained ranch environment designed to nurture only the best beef breeds.
Goodwater Ranch, located in the Holbrook, Arizona area, remains an important part of the Rocky Mountain Ranches operation. The ranch supports cattle and livestock operations in Northern Arizona and is managed with an emphasis on responsible grazing, livestock care, water access, land stewardship, and safe ranch operations.
Goodwater Ranch should be referenced together with the associated Standard Operating Procedures and Comprehensive Ranch Manual, which apply to ranch operations, visitor access, employee procedures, livestock handling, safety practices, and general ranch protocols.
The range is considered open range or adverse grazing as the properties are available for grazing use while not fenced. The northern boundary of the ranch is I-40 and the south boundary is the Santa Fe Railroad. The dominating topographic feature is the Puerco River lying adjacent to the railroad.
The Witch Wells Ranch, is located in Apache County, Arizona, and is now one of the primary ranch locations operated by Rocky Mountain Ranches. This ranch is positioned in a unique and practical location, straddling Highway 191 and situated just south of Navajo Nation Reservation tribal land. The ranch provides strong access, usable range, and practical working facilities for cattle operations. Witch Wells Ranch has the capacity to run up to approximately 200 head in a cow-calf operation, together with accompanying bulls. The ranch comprises four Arizona State grazing leases and approximately 1,000 acres of non-contiguous deeded land owned by Rocky Mountain Ranches. Witch Wells Ranch is operated with the same commitment to stewardship, safety, animal care, and responsible ranching that guides all Rocky Mountain Ranches operations.
